💧 Garden Guy’s St. Augustine Watering Tips
Houston lawns—especially St. Augustine—don’t need daily watering. What they need is a good soaking to reach the root zone.
✅ Water deeply to saturate the soil to a depth of about 6 inches.
✅ Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and allow the grass blades to dry during the day—this helps prevent fungal disease.
✅ Use a rain gauge or soil moisture meter to see how much water your soil really needs before turning on the sprinklers.
Tip: Run your irrigation system for 20–30 minutes per zone, then check with a soil probe to see how deep the water reached. Adjust until you consistently hit 6 inches deep.
🌱 Build a Beautiful Houston Lawn with Garden Guy
Healthy lawns start with consistent care—watering is just one piece of the puzzle.
Mow twice weekly during peak growth and keep grass at 2½–3 inches tall.
Fertilize organically with MicroLife Multi-Purpose 6-2-4 (green bag).
Apply it:
When your grass first starts growing actively in spring
Again in June or July
And one more time in early October
When you see strong new growth, top-dress the lawn with a light layer of enriched topsoil to improve soil structure and feed beneficial microbes.
☀️ Bonus Tip: Don’t Fight Houston Heat—Work With It
If you notice brown patches or thin spots, don’t panic!
They’re often signs of shallow watering or compacted soil—not disease. Aerate compacted areas, top-dress, and return to the deep-watering method above. You’ll see improvement in a few weeks.
🧠 Garden Guy Says:
“Most lawns don’t need more water—they need smarter watering. Deep roots make a tough, heat-resistant Houston lawn.”
We hope this helps you!
